2020 - Ongoing, created via
leaflet
At first, I made a map of people I care about and with
whom I have been checking in since late January when the
coronavirus outbreak started. Now, the map is developing. It
starts to include more people who matter to my friends and
family.
Each day, the online map of the COVID-19 by Johns Hopkins
University shows more and more reported confirmed cases
globally. The tragic situation is worrisome and
heart-wrenching. It is even more striking to see the visual
map updates everyday in which the red circles have become
larger and more dense in countries and cities.
Inspired by the COVID-19 map, I decided to draw a map that is
hopeful and positive. I keep updating the map as I hear back
from people I check in with. I have also followed up with the
people pinned on the map from time to time. Gratefully, so
far, everyone I know is all healthy and safe.
In the forced isolation, I find it is more important to share
and stay connected. Given how unprecedented and challenging
the situation is, I sincerely wish to bring some light and
warmth to the world with what I can. I cannot meet people I
care about in person. But thinking about them comforts me,
makes me feel I am not alone.
Later, I started to invite people on my map to join the
project. I ask them to share where people who matter to them
are and make a map unique to each of them. Now, the overall
map is developing continuously, covered with people matter to
us.
I sincerely wish people to carry with them in mind a visual
map of Earth full of love is what when we move past the
pandemic.
Instead of fear, we carry on to our new lives after COIVD19
with love. The goal is to have more people we care about in
this map than the numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
I believe love and care is much more contagious than
coronavirus.
Please consider to participate the mapping project and help to
share it.
