In this work Lulu continues to embody the idea of the difference and similarity between people.
Nine different sound files were played through the identical speakers. Each sound file was a recording of a story from local people whom the artist interviewed with in Dordrecht, Netherlands. When being near the speakers, the cloudy sound can be barely heard. However, while the visitor picks up a cup, moves away to tighten the string and stays silent, the voice comes from the other end can be clearly heard.
It is Meng’s attempt to bring a playful experience to the audience through the altered string phone devices. This project recalls the cheerful memories of childhood meanwhile it implies that distance and serenity sometimes helps people to understand something more clearly.
